A Magical SolutionWord Count:
I DID ITTTTT X_____X
*collapses from exhaustion*
I'm pretty sure that a) I won't be able to write for a good while and b) I have developed carpel tunnel...BUT, it was totally worth it. NaNoWriMo sounded so intimidating, but it is so damn worth it when you finish. Every long night I spent making sure I hit my word count goal of the day was worth it, especially after I managed to get myself behind by fourteen days (yeah...that was FUN! xD)
I learned something very important this month, something that I've tried to put into practice before but never fully grasped until now. The first draft of any story you write, whether it's a full-length novel, a one hundred word drabble, or an average sized oneshot, you will not always get it right the first time. In fact, you will probably NEVER get it right. You will always think that you can do better. The important thing is to just get your ideas out there and write.
You can polish everything up later when you don't have a crazy deadline to keep up with. Just. Keep. Writing.
I also learned how to overcome writer's block (well, sort of). Just write. Just keep writing. If you're stuck on a certain part of your novel, just skip it and go back to it later. It does not have to be 100% perfect the first time around. Just keep writing. Don't stop, don't surrender to the voice in your head that tells you to give up simply because you got stuck.
For so many years, people who read my fics have asked me if I would ever write a multi-chapter fic. I always said, I'd like to, but probably not. I can't write a full length story, I said. I can't commit to one idea for too long, otherwise I get writer's block and can't finish.
I just proved myself wrong this month. I can
stick to one idea for more than a few days. I can
write 50,000 words in a month. I can do it. I DID it.
I decided to do NaNoWriMo last minute this year and I'm so, so, so happy that I did. Easily one of the best decisions I've ever made and I am so glad that I stuck with it.
Can't wait for next year! :)
